Cheryl Capps has been coaching for WeCanRow DC since 2011.
Cheryl lost her mother to breast cancer in 2004, so when the opportunity came to coach the rowers at WeCanRow DC, she saw it as a way to honor her mom’s memory and also share her love of rowing.
Cheryl’s two kids rowed in high school for Bethesda Chevy Chase and when they both left for college, she decided to enroll in a learn to row sweep class at Thompson’s Boat Club—and was lucky to land in Coach Curt Frank’s novice class! She rowed sweep at Tiber Creek, Capital and Potomac Boat Club (PBC) before settling on sculling at PBC.
Cheryl enjoys watching the rowers develop their physical skills and discover the joy of a perfect stroke!
Recently retired from Verizon, Cheryl is having fun working part-time as a barista at Starbucks and learning the ins and outs of coffee and tea. She looks forward to taking bike trips and exploring the historical areas in the DC area and beyond.
