Can’t think of Business Name Ideas?
Article by Natalie Nickole
When a business is first created, one of the most important pieces of the marketing plan will be to create a name for the business. A name for a business is a lot more than just a name; a name represents a brand. The brand that becomes associated with a business will account for a large percentage of the sales that occur within that business. A business name can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people, but a business name must be memorable, and must represent the company that holds that name. Without having a positive name, a business will never be able to grow. People will never hear about your business, and if they do hear about it, they will instantly forget it.
The question remains however, “I know that I need an awesome business name, but I cannot think of anything. What do I do?”. Because a name is so important, many people stress over the decision of what to call the business. A name is important, but it will not control the destiny of a business. Many businesses with unusual names have erupted with success and people simply remember the name because it is unique, or because they sell a product that the customers love. A name needs to connect with the business’ target audience and to do that, the name must represent the company.
The search for business name ideas should begin with a list of a few key data points about a company. First, the company should list all of their products and services into categories. Next, the company should list the values and beliefs that bind the company together. Finally, the company will want to infuse the company name with character and interesting facts about the business. The more interesting and memorable the name is, the more likely people will be able to remember the company name.
Once all of these data points have been written down business name ideas should begin to emerge out of an intersection of those data points. The name could be a combination of the main product category and a core value, such as Integrity Bicycles. The name could also be an intersection of the main product category and the street where the company was founded, Front Street Refrigerators. The names must represent the company, and it must be memorable. The business will be forever recognized by their name, so it needs to be good!
